Rochester had a very active Occupy organization with an encampment that lasted from November 2011 to the end of March 2012. It was the longest lasting encampment in New York, longer than the one in New York City. In the first days, there were 48 arrests on two different days. Supporters who stood up for the campers' right to occupy Washington Square Park by refusing to leave the park after the 11pm curfew were loaded into paddy wagons and taken to jail. On the second night of arrests, I stood with 15 other supporters, and spent the night behind bars with 5 other women. I was inspired, and became a dedicated occupier, spending most days at the encampment planning, learning, and participating in the general assemblies. My camera was always with me.
